What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a Complementary Therapy and has its roots based in India, China and Egypt and was introduced to the West by Dr William Fitzgerald in 1913, it was called ‘zone therapy’ he noted that specific (reflex) areas on the feet and hands were linked to other areas within the same ‘zone’.refloxology cardiff penarth barry cowbridge

In the 1930’s Eunice Ingham further developed and refined zone therapy into what is now know as Reflexology. She observed that congestion or tension in any part of the feet or hands mirrored congestion or tension in a corresponding part of the body, therefore treating the feet or hands may have a relaxing healing effect on the whole body.

How can Reflexology help me?

A reflexologist uses their hands only to apply pressure to the feet, and for each person the application and effect of the therapy is unique. Trained sensitive hands can detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet, and by working these points, the Reflexologist may be able to release blockages and restore the free flow of energy to the whole body. Tensions may be eased, circulation and elimination of toxins and waste could improved. This gentle therapy encourages the body to heal itself at its own pace.

Who Can Benefit From Reflexology?

As Reflexology treats the whole person, not just the symptoms of the disease, most people can benefit from treatment.

It is suitable for all ages and may bring relief from a wide range of acute and chronic conditions.

Many clients use Reflexology as a way of relaxing the mind and body and counteracting the effects of stress.

What Happens When I Go For A Treatment?

Reflexology is a non invasive treatment of the feet that only requires the removal of your shoes and socks.

The first appointment will take 1 ½ hrs (subsequent treatments 1 hour), this will include a preliminary consultation to determine present health and lifestyle.

During treatment the Reflexologist uses their hands to skilfully apply pressure to specific points on the feet. The application and affect of the therapy are unique to each person.

A professionally trained Reflexologist may be able to detect subtle changes to specific points on the feet and by working on these points may affect the corresponding system or organ.

Once a client has completed a course of treatments, many people find it beneficial to continue treatments in order to maintain their health and well-being.
